Strategies for Personal Branding Success
Personal branding is the process by which we market ourselves
to others. Your personal brand is the way you act, think, speak
and dress. It is what others say about you when you are not
in the room.
Be honest with yourself
In
your discovery about yourself, consider what you stand for,
the values you hold and your strengths & weaknesses,
skills and track record. Be honest with yourself. Listen
to your inner voice that tells you why you are struggling
to achieve what you value. Ask for true feedback of yourself
from the target audience who matters to you.
Be authentic
Successful
brands are authentic so it is important you know who you are
and what you want before you can build your strong brand. Find
your passion, stand for something and be bold about it. Values
motivate actions. Vision is what gives you the focus to reach
your goals. Vision is the possibility you see. Values is the
passion that drives you to achieve your vision.
Be consistent
Is
your brand communicating the real you? Do your behavior and
actions reflect what you value consistently? Is your personal
appearance and tone of voice reflecting the brand you want
to be perceived as.
Be committed to change
Everyone has a brand so it is not about re-inventing another
brand but knowing where you are starting from. Craft a personal
development plan by evaluating where you are now and figuring
out where are the qualities and skills you want to hone in
more and where are the gaps you wish to narrow. Seek regular
feedback to check if you are on track with your development.
Much like products having a product life cycle, so does your
brand. Your brand will grow with your experiences, achievements,
physical and emotional attributes. Be purposeful about the
brand you aspire to be. Your goals will give you the direction
to your personal brand.
Be seen and known
Are you communicating in the appropriate media about yourself?
If you have picked a niche area, are well-networked in that
circle? Have you developed a support framework where you will
be recommended? Are you within reach for people who need your
expertise to know you and find you? Can you articulate your
brand with clarity?
Be a positive influence
If you are positive, you naturally attract people to you,
you inspire people to want to be better.
